The full story

Skyler Newman is a classically trained artist with a passion for writing and generational healing. Her love for children introduced her into the world of storytelling leading her to later write adult fiction.

This story belongs to the little girl who wanted to be an astronaut, but always had her nose glued to the ground looking at small critters. Without her, this story would not exist.

How a book is born

Every book Skyler writes begins as a drawing — a character study, a landscape, a gesture captured before the story has words.

01. Sketching

Before a single sentence is written, Skyler fills notebooks with pencil studies of characters, landscapes, and moments. The visual world of the book has to exist before the verbal one can follow.

02. Writing

The writing comes in long, slow passes. Each sentence is tested aloud — Skyler reads everything she writes to an empty room, listening for the places where language lifts or sags, rushes or rests.

03. Illustrating

The final illustrations are built in layers — from loose ink drawings to detailed watercolor washes, each spread balanced between the story's words and the image's silence.
